 Here are the definitions and sentences that the groups came up with.  I changed a few for correct grammar and meaning.

 

 

 

1. Gimmick: a trick or device used to sell something

 

Many countries use advertising gimmicks to force people to get vaccine shots, in hope for the

 

case number to drop.

 

De Anza College doesn't use marketing gimmicks because many students already want to study

 

online in De Anza during the pandemic.

 

2. Harness: control something in order to use its power

 

Since the COVID pandemic prevents us from going to the campus, we harness video conference

 

software to take the online class.

 

As an online student, I harness the flexibility I have when managing my time so I can do things

 

outside of schoolwork.

 

 

 

3. Apprehension -> Anxiety 

 

I feel apprehension about the future if the COVID-19 continues to affect many people’s

 

lives.

 

Everyone has apprehension about contracting  covid-19.

 

People are feeling apprehension because of the covid situation.

 

 

 

 

 

4. Embrace -> Adopt

 

The students are embracing the service that the LSC center provided.

 

I will embrace the new normal due to covid situation.

 

We should embrace the fact that the school still provides online classes for us.

 

Students didn't have a hard time embracing online school.

b.  After the pandemic happened, my husband always promoted the idea for me to take

 

online classes.

 

   After my sister passed the online classes, she was promoted to general manager at

 

her job.

 

6. potential (n) (line 15)

 

a. possible; likely to develop into a particular type of person or thing in the future.

 

b. There will be potential risk of infection if all the students go back to campus to study.

 

 Because covid-19 has happened, there are more potential risks of infectious diseases in

 

the world.

 

 We have found several potential ways which can treat Covid-19 well.

Definition: definition: someone/something that come before someone/something else

 

 

Online classes have been more useful than their predecessors during covid 19.

 

 

8. reservations (n) *Make sure that you figure out the way the word is used in the text.  (not

 

the way you normally think of the word) (line 52)

 

 

Definition: doubts

 

 

Some people still have reservations about taking covid 19 vacations.

 

 

9. principal (adj) (line 12)

 

definition: main

 

If you want to stay healthy during the Covid-19, the principal thing is to wear a mask to go

out.

 

During covid-19, cleaning your hands frequently and having a mask on is the principal way to stay 

healthy. 

 

I have a cat whose principal function is to make me happy because he is very cute.

 

10. vivid (adj) (line 22)

 

definition: lively

 

China is a vivid example of how strong a country can be during a pandemic.

 

Having online classes, it is hard to give students vivid lessons.

 

When the epidemic came, people could not go out, but the outside world was still

vivid.

11. Inappropriate (adj) (Line 54)

 

A. Definition: not suitable or appropriate in a particular situation

 

B.  Even though we could hide our behavior while leaning online, we should not have

 

inappropriate behaviors to the professor.

 

It’s inappropriate not to wear a mask outdoors because I haven’t been vaccinated.

 

Providing tablets to students for learning can unfortunately also enable them to look up

 

inappropriate content on the internet.

 

12. Outcomes (n) (Line 40)

 

A. Definition: something that follows as a result or consequence

 

B.  If the covid-19 test outcome is negative, I don’t have to self-isolate.

 

    The outcome of the corona virus which takes away human life is cruel.
